Rashad Anderson

Assistant Professor of Teacher Education and Campus Director of the Call Me MiSTER Program, Honors College at SC State University

Dr. Rashad Anderson serves as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education, Campus Director of the Call Me MiSTER Program, and holds a teaching appointment in the Honors College at SC State University. Central to his work is engaging students, scholars, practitioners, and community members to find and implement effective means to better propel Black male youth through K-12 and higher education settings. In fact, Dr. Anderson leads several Black male engagement initiatives such as the Brothers’ Keeper Leadership Summit that bolsters over 1,500 Black males from across SC for a two day conference, coordinates the Black Male College Explorers Day for high schoolers and also serves as the founder & advisor for the largest male organization on SCSU campus, 101 Black Men Society.

Dr. Anderson received his Ph.D. in Educational Foundations and Inquiry at the University of South Carolina where his research interests focuses on the exploration of social justice & equity issues in education including racial, gender, religious, sexual, and class oppression. In 2019, Anderson published his first book, “Wassup with all the Black Boys Sitting in the Principal’s Office.”

As a frequent lecturer, he has presented at over 50 state and national education conferences including an invitation as the keynote speaker from the United States Dept. of Education in 2019 in Washington, D.C. From his
work, Dr. Anderson has received accolades such as the 2019 Call Me MiSTER Trailblazer award, the 2019 SC Fatherhood & Black Male Achievement Man of the Year award, and the 2017 Department of Ed Professor of the Year award.
